Christine Madsen was a writer and editor for eight years at The Christian Science Monitor, where she won a regional award for her series on women and sports. At the Monitor, she says, she learned "to work in those telling details that make a story come alive." As an editor, she has worked with beginning writers as well as Pulitzer Prize winners in a variety of genres.
"As a coach, my goal is always to work a text or manuscript in such a way that the writer doesn't notice my inputs," she says. "I focus on the story the writer wants to tell and can often suggest very small shifts in phrasing, scene structure, or other elements that realign the pieces so that the story is revealed or let free."
After her stint at the Monitor, Chris was editor-in-chief of a bi-weekly newspaper in Boston. She is a freelance writer and has had articles in a number of magazines and newspapers. Chris also writes fiction, and is working on her second novel, Let Me Take You Home. Her own memoir, Sufficient Grace, is in revision. Chris earned a degree in English at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She lives in Washington state.
