Lifewriting Group
What Benefits Will I Receive from Participation?
You--and your writing--will benefit in many ways. Here are a few--
- 1. If you've already begun to write your family and personal stories but haven't been successful in bringing closure (or even contemplating the possibility of closure!) to your memoir writing, a lifewriting group will lead you to completion.
- 2. If you want technical help in your lifewriting, you'll receive it from an experienced leader with support from colleagues in a group setting.
- 3. If you need help to raise your awareness of issues such as style and how to improve it, the group's feedback over time will be valuable.
- 4. If you need the discipline of submitting monthly report forms, you'll be pleased with how the accountability of the lifewriting group will keep you focused.
- 5. If you require more concentration and direction to accomplish your memoir writing goals, the consistent feedback of the group will (gently but firmly) not let you "off the hook."
- 6. If you are determined to go beyond an impasse in characterizaton, conception of the whole memoir, or another problem, but don't know how, the writing group will guide you to the solution you seek.
- 7. If you don't want to work alone and prefer a memoir writing community, you will enjoy the commaraderie of the group. (Members are also encouraged to connect with each other by e-mail and telephone.)
- 8. If you want the expert guidance of a professional writer as group leader and mentor, you will not be disappointed.
- 9. If you want to nurture your belief in the rightness of your project and to sustain your vision, you will find that the group's belief in you will give you strength.
- 10. If you want to learn how to tie disparate vignettes together with effective (and seamless!) transition stories, you will have ample time to do so.
- 11. If you intend to do editing professionally and want to see it modeled, the lifewriting group is your opportunity to grow.
- 12. If you anticipate expanding professionally and need to learn how to lead groups by being in one, then join us soon.
- 13. If you are a personal history professional who wants to add writing to your other services you will receive in-depth training in the process of writing by joining a lifewriting group.
