Write Your First Draft
Tele-Class
THIS LIFESTORY SEMINAR INCLUDES--
the full curriculum of the Turning Memories Into Memoirs® Intro workshop
15 90-minute tele-conference sessions over 7 months
email handouts, exercises and instructor support between sessions
telephone check-ins with instructor between sessions
This introductory lifewriting tele-class provides thorough grounding in the Turning Memories Into Memoirs® lifestory writing method and will provide the tools and the proven techniques for beginning and continuing a memoir project with confidence.
The tele-class will focus on memoir essentials, from creating a writing plan via the MemoryList recall exercise to developing a storyline to considering publication options.
Participants will write brief (3-5 page) stories (or story segments) for each tele-class and email these to classmates as attachments. Over the course of the semester, participants can expect to complete 15 to 25 (or even more) of these pieces. By the end of this First Draft Tele-class, it is not unusual to have written 75 to150 (or more) pages.
A fundamental component of the Turning Memories method is its integrated process of group editing in a supportive and respectful atmosphere. Participants will learn techniques to edit and rework their own stories beyond the workshop tele-classes. They will work with classmates to identify and creatively manipulate the fundamental elements of a well-written lifestory. Expect to write a lot during these seven months!
This is the workshop that Affiliate and Associate teachers lead in their communities. Successfully completing this tele-class fulfills the workshop component of becoming a Certified Lifewriting Instructor (CLI). Participating as a student and witnessing the development in themselves and in other students as writers is a powerful stimulant to teachers in training.
