| Clam Diggahs--Seaford: Tales of a Town Gone By, A Long Island Memoir by Frederick Schwicker, Sr.
"Fred is absolutely authentic.
I call him the Grandma Moses of memoirs.
I love the easy way he writes, but even more important
is the Long Island he writes about:
a place that has just about vanished and needs
to be properly remembered."--John Cole, founding editior of Maine Times author of Life List: Remembering the Birds of My Years |

Publication Party: Local Author at Moxie DayThe Friends of the Lisbon Libraries will host a Publication Party for new author Fred Schwicker, Sr, whose memoir, Clam Diggahs / Seaford: Tales of a A Town Gone By: A Long Island Memoir, will be released on Friday, July 11, during the Moxie Days celebration. A reception will be held from 7 to 8 PM at the Lisbon Falls Library, 24 Main Street in Lisbon Falls. The public is cordially invited to attend. Clam Diggahs is a publication of Soleil Press in Lisbon Falls. Dedicated to helping people to "turn memories into memoirs," Soleil is the publishing arm of Soleil Lifestory Network, an international association of personal history professionals in five English-speaking countries who use the materials and methods developed by local author and teacher, Denis Ledoux. Ledoux's memoir-writing handbook, Turring Memories Into Memoirs, and his workshops by the same name, have helped thousands of people to record their personal and family memories in writing. Still, says Ledoux, Fred Schwicker is unique. "Fred came to us with a completed manuscript and asked us to help him transform his work into the "real" book he'd been dreaming of. Fred's 'voice' is authentic and colorful. He has some great stories! Like many people who commit themselves to writing about their pasts, Fred had a strong desire--a compulsion, really--to honor and preserve the lives of the people he knew and the way of life that has all but disappeared." Ledoux, who will be exhibiting at Moxie Day on Saturday, July 12, conducts workshops in Lewiston, Portland and on the coast of Maine. Soleil provides editing, writer coaching and book production services in addition to workshop leader training and support. "We're very excited for Fred," says Ledoux. "His achievement proves that you don't have to be a professional writer to write a book your family will be proud of for generations. Clam Diggahs is a collection of stories that will remind readers everywhere of an era and a place that many of us hold in our hearts, no matter where we grew up." Copies of Schwicker's book, a 208-page soft cover with 50+ historic photos, will be for sale at the July 11 event, at the Soleil booth at Moxie Day, and at the Lisbon Libraries.
